Wow, time is going by really quickly. A couple people have asked me to update the blog because they need a Molly fix. So here goes. Hope naptime is a long one today...
Molly is running everywhere, she can jump 3" off the ground. We go to yoga for kids at the Firehouse on Saturdays (there was a picture of us in the Register West section earlier this week, and we were on a Channel 13 news clip 11/27 as well). If she feels like it, she can do downward dog, catback cowtilt, eagle, tree, lion, and moonflower asanas. Savasana is a hard one for her, as it is for most stressed out adults. The thought of lying down without sleeping just does nothing for her. She likes to tell me it's my turn to stand on my head.
She has a vocabulary that startles some visitors to the house - including Grandmoma and Bumpa whose other grandchildren, boys 4 and 6, are less inclined to use as many adjectives.
She has a good imagination which she uses for inventive play (she likes to have tea, and lunch with her animals). Her favorite games are ones she invented herself - chasing boo, a combination of hide and seek and tag; chasing helmets, a game requiring running with sandpails on our heads; 321 Blast Off which involves counting down, yelling blastoff then running the length of our house wearing the sandpail helmet; and chasing loud, you guessed it we make all kinds of noise and yell while we chase around the house. Are you seeing a pattern here?
She also puts on the sandpail helmet for pony riding around the house - a rule from our farming friends that made a lasting impression!
She wants to be an astronaut and is, to my surprise and endless mystification, fascinated by the NASA channel. If public television shows are considered over-stimulating by some parents, NASA would seem to be the polar opposite.
She likes to mash, pat, flatten and roll dough - we make pretzels and pizza together sometimes. The only pizza she'll eat is pizza we make.
She is starting to help clean up toys and messes. She loves to throw things in the trash. If I help her or give her something she says, "Fank you, Mommy" or "Good Job, Mommy!"
She says please, thank you and you're welcome. If you ask her if she would like more milk or dinner or whatever, if she's full she'll say either say "No thank you," or "I fine," and shake her head a tiny bit. We fall down on the floor every time she does this because it is too cute.
She has memorized all of her books and generally no longer particularly wants Jon or me to read to her - unless it's a new library book and we've only had it for one day. She says, "Self." and pulls the book away. Recently she has started putting herself to bed (snack, potty, brushing teeth, rocking while reading, then "Mommy, in bed" and a request for a song or two) -- unfortunately this is happening at increasingly later and later hours (10-11-12).
She is working hard at learning songs and nursery rhymes and walks around the house saying phrases from them over and over - in a sort of telescoped language of her own invention. If you say them to her she can fill in the rhyming words at the ends of sentences. One of her favorite songs is Yankee Doodle, which Jon is teaching her all the lyrics to. That's another thing, she's taken to calling Daddy Jon. He hates this. It cracks me up.
She also is developing a sense of humor. When someone tries to tease her or do something silly, she says "Funny," arches her back and laughs this fake belly laugh "hahaha." If she does something silly, and doesn't immediately get a reaction from her audience, she'll say in her odd, gravelly voice, "Molly funny, hahaha."
If Jon and I try to have a conversation she scowls and yells, "MOMMY, NO TALKING DADDY." We have no idea where she picked this up.
Except for her high energy level, Jon and I are convinced that we have been given a 47 year old person instead of a toddler. The high energy is having a great effect on us though, between the two of us we've lost something like 70 lbs. since June.
Friday we'lll celebrate one year since we first saw the pictures of her and learned her name. I got the call and email at 3:24 and was struck speachless and teary within seconds. I still keep that little picture by our desk/eat-in counter so I can remember that feeling every day. Time does fly, and we're having so much fun.
Wo ai ni, Molly!

P.S. Another really wierd thing. She loves lollipops and has nicknamed herself Mollipop - which is one of the jokes we made a long time ago when we were trying to decide on her name and how to spell it.
