This has been the winter of skating. Molly and Cheryl went skating a couple of times last year, but this year it has become her obsession. Weekly trips to the Brenton Skating Plaza have turned into skating lessons during the month of February. It was a no-brainer that Molly's birthday party should be an ice skating party. Unfortunately, to accommodate the end of the outdoor skating season we had to schedule it for March 5th.

Despite the unbelievably cold and snowy winter we have had in Des Moines, the first week in March was unseasonably warm. The rink personnel desperately kept the ice skatable by covering it during the day and only opening the rink at 5:00 for Molly's party. Their efforts paid off with a reasonably smooth sheet.

Whether it was the date or the skating, nearly every kid invited showed up...including brothers and sister and parents. It took pizza, ice cream cake, and hot chocolate to get
them off the ice.
However, by 7:30 everyone looked like it was going to be an early bedtime. And I finally got my monkey hat. A great time was had by all!
