The Buckeye Classic 2/16/13

The Buckeye Classic is hosted by Buckeye Gymnastics and presented by the Buckeye Gymnastics Boosters Club. The meet is in its 30th year and is essentially three meets being run simultaneously over three full days. According to the website, there were over 2000 gymnasts with gyms from as far away as Wisconsin, New York, Texas, and Tennessee. The highlight is the balloon drop after the march in of teams.

The preparations for this meet go on nearly year around, but as parents of a Level 4 in her first year on the competitive team, our responsibilities were limited to working at the meet. We were at the front gate, in the Coaches Room, selling merchandise, and every family must either participate in set-up or tear down. And in addition to competing, the Buckeye gymnasts are assigned at least one volunteer duty (Molly helped hand out awards).

As for Molly, she was placed in a very competitive group of Level 4s. In addition to the top girls from Buckeye, her flight also included the best girls from the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy.  Molly had a very consistent meet, totaling her second best all-around score of the year and taking 8th overall. Her best event was the beam, where she tied for second. The team took first overall.
