Adventureland Park

You might describe Adventureland as Des Moines' answer to Disney World, except that it is in Altoona and a lot of the rides are slightly above the quality you find on a traveling midway. But there are three roller coasters, a couple water rides, and a big ferris wheel. It is the site of innumerable company picnics and the place to win a stuffed animal for your sweetie. It is also a place we could introduce Molly to amusement rides that is not the State Fair.

All in all it went pretty well and the scars of the Chinese acrobat incident are slowly healing. The spinning balloon ride turned out to be a little too much spinning, but Molly rode dragons, drove lady bugs, a big rig, and snow mobile, captained a boat, and flew a biplane. We watched a circus that thankfully did not have any clowns, but did have a woman on a flying trapeze and a human cannonball.

In retrospect, our only misjudgment was the inner tube water slide. It looked innocent enough, but when Molly bounced out of her seat on the first big bump, panic set in. Fortunately, we were snapped out of it with a big splash of water that left us all wet. Lunch and some imitation dippin' dots put that behind us.
