Beaver Trot

Cheryl is in Boone attending the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute retreat, so Molly and I decided to kick-off fall by participating in the Beaverdale Fall Festival festivities.  At 8:00 AM we were toeing the starting line for the Beaverdash 5k.  Molly and I have done one 5k before, but it was a very small race in Grinnell.  The Beaverdash is a much larger race.  With Molly in the BOB, it took a mile before we had enough space to run a consistent pace.  I believe we ended up finishing a shade over 25 minutes.

After some refreshments and chatting with friends, Molly lined up for the Beaver Trot.  The Trot was no more than 20 yards, but the 3-4 year olds were jostling for position.  Molly overcame a little contact at the start to finish strong and earn a very pretty purple ribbon.

We had no time to waste however.  A quick change from the BOB to the bike and Burley and we were off to join the parade.  Bill invited us to join the Friends of Central Iowa Trails and march in the Beaverdale Fall Festival Parade.  Bill had rigged a canoe onto wheels that he pulled by bike and another group rode a quadbike.  Molly rode in the Burley and made sure to toss candy to the little kids, gum to the big kids, and wave as much as possible.  And just as the parade route ended, Molly passed out in complete exhaustion.
