Once at Night Eyes, it was all about the candy. This year we had a running battle over trying to eat the candy before it was put into the bag. At least Molly was polite with an occasional "Trick or Treat" and a consistent "Thank you!"
Wednesday night, we carved pumpkins in preparation for the Beggar's Night. This year Molly drew her own jack-o-lantern. It is the small one with the scary eyes.
In a matter of unfortunate scheduling, Cheryl had her Institute Class that evening. Instead, Molly's friend Aldo and his parents joined us for the tour around our neighborhood. They arrived a little before 6:00 pm while Molly was still eating dinner. When Molly saw Aldo dressed in costume, we had to immediately run up stairs and put on her princess costume. As we were coming back downstairs, I was completely spooked as Molly was descending the stairs in a pink satin and poofy dress to the "ooohs" and "aahhs" from Aldo and her parents watching from the living room. This should NOT be happening for another 13 years.
The rest of Beggar's Night went well. Molly and Aldo would knock on the doors. With the comedic timing of a four year old, Aldo would rush through his joke while Molly clammed up. Both, however, were consistent with the "Thank you".
On Halloween proper, we sent loving thoughts skyward for Grandma Lucy and prepared for Trick or Trunk at Cowls Elementary. Since Cowls is not a typical neighborhood school, they arrange this event to let the kids trick or treat with their classmates.
Cheryl and Molly decorated the back of the Pilot with spider webs and we loaded up the jack-o-lanterns and all the candy we didn't give out on Beggar's Night. With the weather in the mid-60's it was like tailgating before a football game, except with candy. Lots and lots of candy.
