The First Day of the Second Year of Preschool

Yesterday was Molly's first day of her second year in preschool. As Molly will correct you, school officially started on Monday, but with the trip and jet lag (she slept until 1:00 PM on Monday), Tuesday was her first day of school. Since she slept until 11:00, she only went for the afternoon. It seemed to be a good day and the highlight of the trip to Australia appears to be dolphin show at Sea World. Please also note the bedazzled "Peace" symbol on her shirt that Molly insisted she wear to denote herself a 'Peaceful Person', a key tenant of the Montessori Program.

She is still in Mrs. Brannon's class with a lot of the same kids, but this year she will be going to school all day. Not only does this mean bringing Lefty Munchler (her lunch box), but it also means that she will have to get on a schedule of waking up by 7:00 AM.

After such a wonderful first day and the prospect of getting to
eat lunch in the cafeteria with Mrs. Benson, Molly insisted on going for a full day today. We thought she was going to bed at 8:00 PM, but it just turned out to be a nap. So at midnight when Cheryl decided that Molly was not going to get enough sleep to make it to school in time, Molly suggested leaving her window shade open so she would see the first light in the morning. After a false alarm that the sun was rising at 1:00 AM, Molly woke us all up at 7:00 sharp announcing that it was now in fact morning. With something less than six hours sleep she happily ate breakfast, brushed her teeth, got dressed, and was ready to go with five minutes to spare. We are both thrilled that she loves school, even if it is just because she gets to eat in the cafeteria.

On a side note, we took her measurements to mark the first day of school. She is now 40.5" and has grown over an inch since July and over six inches since last August. Remarkably, she still only weighs 35 lbs.
