The Longest Sunday Ever

We had to wake Molly up at 5:45 on the first Sunday, August 30th. I am not sure when the second Sunday morning started, but I am sure Molly was awake.

We made it home safely with no delays, mishaps, or lost luggage. A big thanks to Kari for picking us up at the airport with a fantastic egg bake and banana bread for us to eat for whatever meal we should be eating at that time (dinner in the US or breakfast in Australia?).

The day started with dragging our luggage down to the lobby and checking out of the serviced apartment at 6:30 AM. We are going to miss high rise living. The sun rises over the beach, amazing sunsets over the mountains, and someone to make our beds and replace the towels.

Our flight was not until 11:00, but there was an annual fun run scheduled for Sunday morning in Brisbane which involved closing half of the major bridge near the airport. To make sure we had enough time they built in an extra hour. It turns out we made it across the bridge and to the airport with no trouble, but needed that extra hour waiting in line at the Qantas desk.

Our seats on this flight seemed to be in the family section. Nearly every row in our section of Economy had a kid of some age or another. Had we not been traveling with Molly it could have been a difficult flight.
Molly did really well on the flight and only had one bad stretch. Midway over the Pacific (however, I do not believe we were over the Midway atoll) we hit some turbulence. It wasn't bad, but enough the pilot asked the flight attendants to sit down and buckle up. However, it was too much for Molly and she was terrified. We could not hold her tight enough and at the more severe bumping she would scream and cry. Once we were back into smooth air, she was fine and happily watching TV.

We arrived back in Los Angeles at 7:00 AM on Sunday, August 30th (our second Sunday morning).
Other than a lot of waiting in line we made it through customs and got our baggage with no problem. The flights from LA and Denver were also uneventful with lots of napping. We did notice the seats on the United flight from LA were significantly more roomy than the Qantas economy seats, but we did miss the attentive service and little TVs.

We arrived home at 7:30 PM on our second evening of Sunday, August 30th. It does not seem like much has happened since we left. The biggest news appears to be that the city repaved our street while we were gone and our grass is a little unruly. It is good to be home, but I already miss the beach.
