California Dreaming

Before we start talking about this big adventure to Australia, there is one ‘incident’ that I need to document. The other day I was trying to make our bed. Molly was in the room and as her is her usual wont, she wanted to help. ‘Helping’ typically involves tugging here and there and then finishing with the infamous ‘Ancient Chinese Flattening Dance’ that Julia taught her.

On this day, however, she was feeling feisty and chose to do the opposite of everything I did. If I pulled the sheets up...she pulled down...if i arranged pillows...she disarranged them. After several stern ‘Wait!’, I had enough and firmly asked her: “What part of ‘Wait!’ do you not understand!” Without missing a beat, she responded: “Wa...Wa”.

Touche.

After much packing, repacking, and packing again, we loaded up and headed off on our big Australian adventure. Today was the easy leg and reasonably uneventful. The TSA did not open up the bike box and Molly only took one dose of Dramamine. On the second flight from Dallas to L.A., Molly was even willing to open the window shade and peek outside. It helped that she was sitting between both of us and wore the noise canceling headphones most of the ride. Molly did a great job today.

Once in L.A. we made a beeline for the hotel and hit the pool. Since we are staying at the Embassy Suites, we enjoyed the Manager’s Happy Hour before dinner and Cheryl and Molly were asleep by 8:00 PST. Tomorrow should involve another trip to the pool and the afternoon at Manhattan Beach. The flight to Brisbane is at 11:00 PM (1:00 CST), which should make for an interesting evening with Molly.
